Actors Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor’s latest movie, Param Sundari, started its theatrical run on August 29, and the advance booking reports hinted at a decent opening day. Apart from the interviews and promotional events, the actors were also seen visiting the Lalbaugcha Raja temple in Mumbai to participate in the Ganpati celebrations. However, the experience was anything but a relaxing, especially for Janhvi, as the massive crowd already present at the location made it very difficult for the actors to move around.

Several videos of the two surfaced online, and in their approach to the temple, Janhvi and Sidharth both seemed to be in high spirits. The later videos showed the actors struggling to wade past the hordes of people, who became more excited after seeing the two stars there. As the two actors crawled their way to the idol of Ganesh, Janhvi’s expression quickly changed. Even though she had Sidharth right behind her, holding on to her, there was a lot of pushing involved from all directions, and the actor was visibly uncomfortable in the situation.

When the video found its way to Reddit, many users defended the actor and said that any woman in that type of situation would feel scared and uncomfortable. One user wrote, “All women feel the same way; no amount of money can make you feel comfortable in a crowded space, that’s for sure,” while another said, “To be fair, most women would feel uncomfortable in this crowd; it has nothing to do with privilege and everything to do with not feeling safe in a crowd with men. You can clearly see Sidharth is unfazed, and Janhvi and the few other women in this video are the uncomfortable ones.”

Many users also pointed out that if the actors had used a VIP line, people would have called out her privilege, and she cannot be questioned for trying to visit a temple like a regular person.

Battling accusations of being stereotypical towards South Indians and comparisons with Chennai Express, Param Sundari has finally made it to the screens, and it remains to be seen whether director Tushar Jalota is able to make a serious mark at the box office. Directed by Jalota, the cast of the film includes Sidharth, Janhvi, Sanjay Kapoor, Manjot Singh, Aakash Dahiya, and Rajeev Khandelwal.
