To keep marching on in the film industry, actor Isha Talwar says the crucial quality one needs is patience. Isha, who broke out of the scene with her performance in Mirzapur season two, surprisingly had no work coming her way post the success of the fan-favorite show.

The actor, who has been in the industry for more than a decade, featured as Madhuri Yadav on the series headlined by Pankaj Tripathi. The series got her love and acclaim, but not solid work. Until she landed a part in her latest Disney Plus Hotstar series Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, when asked how did her life change post Mirzapur, Isha said, “I sat at home for a year after Mirzapur, until I could get Saas Bahu aur Flamingo. It took me ten years to get a Mirzapur and then I had to really find… It happens, it took a while. Like I said I sat at home for a year until this show happened, so you wait patiently. I have not worked since November. I am now waiting for this show to release.”

Directed by Homi Adajania, making his series debut, Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo stars Dimple Kapadia as Savitri, who runs a drug cartel, supported by her equally fierce daughters-in-law and daughter, played by Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar and Isha.

Isha said post Mirzapur, she had consciously decided not to give auditions as she had been doing it for ten years. Every casting director in the city, Isha said, has about “500 tapes” of her auditions. But for Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, the actor said she did test for the role as Homi insisted.

“I wanted to be a part of the show the moment I saw the presentation that came to me. I had stopped auditioning after Mirzapur. So, I texted Homi if he could watch some scenes from Mirzapur because I didn’t want to audition as I had auditioned with him 8 years ago. He said no, we do need an audition. I then tested for it and instinctively wanted to be a part of it when I saw the material.

“I didn’t want to audition after Mirzapur because I have been auditioning for ten years, every casting director has about 500 tapes of mine so I think I have done my bit of auditioning,” she added.

Isha said a show like Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, which is backed by a good script, is a rarity in the industry. “It is difficult to be surprised by one. It is very rare that you come across a good script, it has taken a while. But the doors are slowly opening with OTT.”
