Imran Khan recently opened up about the pressures actors face to maintain their looks and appear masculine. Imran admitted that while this pressure historically fell more on women, requiring them to look appealing and “wrinkle-free,” it has increasingly affected men, especially with the rise of the superhero genre in both Western and Hindi cinema.

Discussing the pressure to appear masculine, he said on the YouTube channel We Are Yuvaa, “In the last 2010-20 years, it started to become a pressure point for men as well. Particularly with the rise of the superhero genre, and Hrithik was the proponent of that. Even back in the 90s, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt were massively masculine dudes. When you see it more and more, you start to feel the pressure and say to yourself, ‘I need to look like that.’ Social media has also intensified it.”

Imran also revealed that he resorted to steroids to fit into the masculine image prominent in Bollywood. “For a long time, I tried to conform to that, but I am not built like Captain America; I don’t have a Thor physique. I tried my best. I took all of the stuff. I resorted to steroid use as well, but it’s not sustainable,” he said.

Imran Khan left the film industry after his film Katti Batti, also starring Kangana Ranaut, flopped at the box office. In a conversation with Film Companion, Imran revealed that he left films when he felt disconnected from his true self. He said, “It’s not my job to be an actor. I can be an actor if I want; I cannot be an actor if I don’t want these things. That was optional; fixing myself is not optional.”

Recently, there were rumours of the actor marking his comeback with the film Happy Patel, backed by Aamir Khan. However, he dismissed all such claims.
