How Twinkle Khanna, Akshay Kumar avoid disagreements over politics, keep their marriage happy: ‘Brush things under the carpet’

In the last few years, Akshay Kumar has been quite vocal about his political opinions and has never shied away from supporting the government’s initiatives. But, his wife, author and former actor Twinkle Khanna, comes from another school of thought when it comes to her political opinions and she too, through her columns, has her stand clear about politics. When in a recent interview, Akshay was asked about the differing opinions of him and his wife, the actor said that they don’t “impose on each other” and avoid political discussions at home.

“My wife’s thinking about politics is different than me. We don’t impose on each other. We are completely different,” he told ANI. When asked if the two of them discuss politics at home, Akshay said that they “avoid that discussion.” He shared, “We try and avoid that discussion. That is one discussion we try and avoid because there’s no point. You know how the other person thinks and you know how you think.”

Akshay then added that while people believe in discussing every aspect of their lives, he thinks that certain things should be brushed under the carpet. He said, “They say that never brush things under the carpet. When you want to live happily, I say sometimes it is important because that particular thing… there is no solution to it. Take it and put it under the carpet and live happily.”

In a 2021 blog in The Times of India, Twinkle wrote about their ‘opposing views’. She shared, “If I paid attention to the comments thrown my way, then either I should get a divorce because my partner and I hold opposing views on multiple issues or wear a sari and gyrate to Tip Tip Barsa Pani on alternate weekends to keep the marriage alive.”

Akshay and Twinkle have been married since 2001. The couple has two children – son Aarav and daughter Nitara.
