Haseen Dillruba actor Harshvardhan Rane suspects co-star Vikrant Massey’s ‘retirement’ may be a PR move; Dia Mirza voices support
While many expressed sadness over Vikrant Massey’s retirement, some speculated that it might only be a temporary break. Some others, meanwhile, suggested that it could be a promotional strategy.

Vikrant Massey’s fans and moviegoers in general were left stunned on Monday when the actor announced his retirement from cinema at the age of 37. Taking to social media, Vikrant — who achieved widespread recognition for his performance in director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail — revealed that he plans to step away from acting after completing one final film.
While many expressed sadness over his decision, especially as he is finally receiving long-overdue acclaim, some speculated that it might only be a temporary break rather than a full retirement. Others, however, viewed the announcement with scepticism, suggesting it could be a promotional strategy tied to a brand or upcoming project.
Vikrant’s Haseen Dillruba co-star Harshvardhan Rane also weighed in on the matter, describing the news as potentially “a PR activity.” He also expressed hope that even if the news is true, Vikrant gets back to making films like Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. “He is a man with a clear and centered thought process. I respect his work ethic and look up to his acting process on Haseen Dillruba’s shoot. Hope he gets back to making films like Aamir Khan sir also did after making a similar announcement. These are great artistes and our country needs their presence in our cinema. I’m praying this is just some PR activity forced on him by some filmmaker,” Harshvardhan told Bollywood Bubble.
Early on Monday morning, Vikrant posted an emotional note on social media, explaining his decision to step back. He wrote: “Hello, The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a husband, father and a son. And also as an actor. So coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many a years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted!”

An industry outsider who began his career in television, Vikrant made his film debut in director Vikramaditya Motwane’s Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh-starrer Lootera (2013).
