Former Bigg Boss winner Gautam Gulati recalled his 15-minute conversation with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and said that the filmmaker told him that there was a role that he could’ve played in the upcoming Netflix series Heeramandi, but somebody else had been cast in it.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Gautam revealed that this was actually the second time he’d met Bhansali. Their first meeting was on a flight to London, but Gautam gave the filmmaker his space on that occasion. But some time later, he was driving past Bhansali’s house when he spotted the filmmaker out on a stroll. He decided to turn his car around and go chat with him.

He said, “I got out of the car, and he recognised me. I walked with him for 15-20 minutes. He’s a very positive man, and I think he’s the greatest Indian filmmaker. Every actor wants to work with him, and I’m a great fan of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was enough for me when he said that there was something for me, ‘but it’s gone to some other guy’, in Heeramandi. I told him, ‘No problem sir, my entire life is ahead of me, I’d love to work with you some day’.”

Gautam said that Bhansali gave him the contact details of his team, and also asked if he has trained in dancing. Gautam told him that he has trained for five years at Shiamak Davar’s academy. “Then he said, ‘Show me your eyes’, and I was wearing glasses, so I showed him my eyes,” Gautam said.

Gautam broke out after winning Bigg Boss 8. He subsequently appeared in the Salman Khan-starrer Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai. Next, he’ll be seen as a gang leader on the 19th season of Roadies.
