Gauri Khan gives a sneak peek of Shah Rukh Khan’s library and Aryan’s room in Mannat; SRK demands a ‘discounted makeover’
Shah Rukh Khan's wife and designer Gauri Khan gives a glimpse of their house Mannat in her new book. SRK has written the foreword of the book.

Many know superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s wife and interior designer Gauri Khan has built an impressive empire for herself in her chosen field. But hardly anyone knows why and how her journey as a designer began.
Gauri said she had never decided that she would be a designer, she always had a passion towards arts, but her first job as a designer came to her because both SRK and her did not have enough money to hire a designer, having invested everything they had in their house. She recently announced her debut book, My Life in Design, on social media with a never-seen-before family photograph, featuring herself, Shah Rukh and their three children — Aryan, Suhana and AbRam.

Shah Rukh has also written a foreword for the book, a section of which reads, “I am excited to see what she has included in her book, and if by chance she has designed some space better than what she has done for me, I will force her to give me a discounted makeover for my space.”
The family resides in the sea-facing bungalow, Mannat, which has become a landmark in itself that fans and tourists visit, and take pictures in front of. Speaking to Vogue India, Gauri said that she will be offering several new glimpses of the house in her book: “A lot of people—Shah Rukh’s fans especially—have wondered what lies behind the gated walls of Mannat. I would like the readers of this coffee table book to chip in and tell me what work they like more than others, since there are a lot of unseen pictures in the book.”
Meanwhile, the superstar stated that it is something of a shock to see his partner work so hard, adding, “It’s both shocking and endearing to see her awake late at night, working on her iPad to make a delivery on time.” Gauri directed the chat towards Mannat, and said one of the most imposing features of the house is its ‘large gates.’ She also said that she wanted the house to have a certain uniformity. Khan shared that one of the primary attractions of the residence is Shah Rukh Khan’s library.

“A majority of Shah Rukh’s day, when he’s not shooting, is spent in the library. We have created a comfortable yet serious ambience. It’s warmly lit, has an old-school vibe to the way the library shelves are designed and is an atmosphere conducive to creativity,” shared Khan, even as she spoke fondly about her sons’ rooms. For Aryan, she wanted him to have a space where he could write as well as hang out with his friends. “He hangs with his friends there and the lighting transforms the area into a casual spot to watch movies and play games, but it’s also a place he used to study in and writes and works in now,” Gauri said.
Meanwhile, AbRam and Suhana have their own spaces that is a blend of what they like and their respective personalities.
Besides her own bungalow, Gauri has also designed houses for Ranbir Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra and Karan Johar’s nursery for his two children — Roohi and Yash Johar.
