Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 dominated the box office for almost four weeks but now, the film has some major competition as Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan has debuted with a storm. With Jawan’s historic Rs 75 crore opening, Gadar 2 will find it hard to draw more and more audiences and the proof of the same was evident in the film’s 28th day collection. On the release day of Jawan, Gadar 2 could only manage to earn Rs 1.5 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.

This takes the film’s nett domestic collection to Rs 510.59, which makes it the second-highest Hindi earner of the year after Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan which made Rs 543.05 crore upon its release in January. Gadar 2 still has to make Rs 32.46 crore to match Pathaan’s record.

Gadar 2’s collections will go past SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 as the 2017 film made Rs 510.99 crore through its lifetime, as per Bollywood Hungama. If Gadar can manage to stay above the 1 crore mark today on Friday, it will cross Baahubali 2’s collections.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan has had the biggest opening ever seen by a Hindi film. This record was previously also held by Shah Rukh Khan as his film Pathaan made Rs 57 crore on opening day. As of now, Gadar 2 held the second rank on this list as it made Rs 40.10 crore, but now, it has shifted to the third spot.

In a recent chat with indianexpress.com, Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma spoke about the release of Jawan and said that the audience will enjoy both films. “I don’t know what the industry will say about the film, but it is going to be such a mass entertainer. The music, dance and dialogue baazi especially is looking good, very likable. I am an SRK fan, and I am going to watch the movie. Badi acchhi lag rahi hai film (the film is looking very good). I’ll watch it on the first day itself,” he said.

Gadar 2 also stars Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur.
