Fighter trailer: Hrithik Roshan’s patriotic film references Pulwama attack and Balakot, warns of ‘India occupied Pakistan’
Fighter trailer: Starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor in the lead roles, the Siddharth Anand directorial revolves around the Pulwama attack.

The trailer of Siddharth Anand’s much-awaited aerial action drama, Fighter was unveiled on Monday and from the look of it, it looks like a complete masala entertainer, to make the audience experience a rush of patriotic fervour. The film has Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor in the lead roles, along with Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi and Talat Aziz. The film, which revolves around IAF officers, will hit the theatres on January 25, the same date as Siddharth’s last film Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan opened.
In the Fighter trailer, Anil Kapoor makes a quick response team with his best aviators, including Hrithik’s Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania and Deepika’s Squadron Leader Minal Rathore. The first half of the trailer gives a glimpse of everything beautiful and stylish, from the characters of the film to the locales where it has been shot. But soon it is clear that the film revolves around “the deadliest terror attack on Indian air forces” in Pulwama. The film references the Pulwama attack as well as India’s strikes across the border in Balakot.
As the trailer progresses, and a character, presumably playing the PM of the country, talks about taking revenge and making the ‘dushman’ realise, ‘Baap kaun hai?’, you are reminded of the 2019 film Uri: The Surgical Strike, starring Vicky Kaushal. However, the film looks like a visual extravaganza with most of the action taking place in the air. There is no dearth of scenes to rouse patriotism in the viewers.
From aerial battles to a hand to hand fight where Hrithik talks about ‘Pakistan occupied Kashmir’ and warns of ‘India occupied Pakistan’, the film is loaded with the sort of chest-thumping moments meant to elicit applause from the audience.

The trailer was released at a grand event in Mumbai. While Hrithik attended the launch, Deepika missed the event and informed about the same on social media. Taking to her Instagram stories, Deepika wrote, “Will miss my squadron…Good Luck Team!”.
Pulwama attack and Balakot airstrikes
On February 14, 2019, a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber attacked a CRPF convoy that was travelling from Jammu to Srinagar, killing 40 members of the CRPF. India launched a counter-attack ‘Operation Bandar’ where airstrikes were carried out in the Balakot region at JeM camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on February 26. The region was said to be an important training centre for the JeM and other terror organisations. Later, Pakistan claimed it had two IAF pilots in custody, later changing its statement to say only one IAF pilot was in custody. The next day, then Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the release of captured IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. The MIG-21 fighter jet pilot was shot down by the PAF’s F-16 and landed in Pakistani territory, as per reports he was detained and interrogated. He was later conferred with India’s third-highest wartime gallantry medal the Vir Chakra.
Before releasing the film’s trailer, the makers of Fighter intrigued the audience by releasing its character posters, teaser and two songs, “Sher Khul Gaye” and “Heer Aasmani”. Since their release, fans on the internet have been comparing Hrithik’s look in the movie to Tom Cruise. A BTS video, which was released on Hrithik’s 50th birthday recently, showed how the actor went through rigorous physical training for the film.

Fighter marks Hrithik Roshan’s third collaboration with Siddharth Anand after Bang Bang and War. Talking about the film, Siddharth, who is also making his debut as a producer under his production company Marflix, earlier shared, “Fighter is a dream project, and I am glad to have someone with Ajit Andhare (COO, Viacom18 Studios) vision to be partnering this with me. With this film, we aim to put Indian films on the map for action-loving global theatrical audiences who crave spectacle and the big screen experience.”
