Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter has been in the theatres for over a week now but it seems like the film is struggling to make its mark at the box office. Released amid much hype, Fighter managed to bring in Rs 5.75 crore at the domestic box office on its eighth day, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This takes the film’s domestic box office collection to Rs 146.25 crore.

On Friday, Fighter’s night shows had an occupancy of 15.57%. In the Delhi-NCR region, where the film had 792 shows, the occupancy was 11.25% and in Mumbai, where the film had 629 shows, the occupancy was only 13%.

Fighter was expected to replicate the success of Siddharth Anand’s previous release Pathaan which released in January 2023. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer was an anomaly for its time as it created unprecedented records at the box office which were later surpassed by films like Jawan and Animal. The film was also being compared to War since it brought back the actor-director duo which gave the 2019 hit War. Hrithik’s 2019 film Super 30, which was seen as a hit, brought in around Rs 146 crore at the domestic box office. Super 30 was made at a much smaller scale and Fighter has been projected as India’s answer to Hollywood film Top Gun.

Back in 2019, War managed to put up a total of Rs 318.01 crore at the domestic box office and became one of the biggest hits of the year. Hrithik hasn’t had a big hit in the theatres since then. His last release, Vikram Vedha, which released in 2022, could only collect Rs 78.66 crore at the domestic box office, as per Bollywood Hungama. It seems unlikely that Fighter will be the hit that the star was looking for and it looks like all the expectations for his next hit might get fulfilled by his next film, War 2.

The film also stars Deepika Padukone, who had a very successful year in 2023 with films like Pathaan and Jawan, which were both led by Shah Rukh Khan. Both these films did a collective total of over Rs 2000 crore at the global box office. Deepika will next be seen in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD, which also stars Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan. She will also be seen in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again which is a huge star studded vehicle starring Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor and Jackie Shroff.
