Actor Tanuj Virwani is all set to rule our screens in 2024, but before that, it is time for some new beginnings for the Inside Edge actor. He married his long-time girlfriend Tanya Jacob in Lonavala on Christmas Day in the presence of friends and family. And as he took the plunge in an intimate Christmas-themed wedding, he sat down for a freewheeling chat with Indian Express.

Talking about how he met Tanya, Tanuj shared, “I have known Tanya for almost 9 years now. We met in 2016 when I was dating someone else and didn’t see her in that capacity, but we grew close over the years. Even when she shifted base back to Singapore, we continued being in touch. Last year, I was ready to settle down, and I couldn’t do a long distance. So I requested her to move here, she moved in with me in Mumbai and that really helped us.”

Since Tanuj has been in a live-in relationship with Tanya for almost 8 to 9 months, we asked the Masaba Masaba actor his views on marriage and live-ins, to which he commented, “We have become a very triggered society where it is either my way or the highway. As a result of this, the divorce rate has shot up exponentially. We have to understand that nobody is perfect. You also have to be in love with other people’s imperfections. We have become rather intolerant as a society, we all need to just calm down a little bit. Life can be very beautiful.”

He further added, “I did have a live-in relationship with Tanya for 8 to 9 months before we decided to take the plunge. If it is a feasible option I highly recommend it to people. It is perfectly fine if people don’t believe in the institution of marriage and go for a live-in relationship. As long as both parties are on the same page, who are we to say anything? I consider marriage as sacred.”

When asked if marrying someone from outside the industry was a conscious decision on Tanuj’s part, the groom explained, “Tanya has done modeling over the years, but yes, she is not from the industry. For me, it is about marrying a person and not the profession. I have also dated actors from the industry, as a person I tend to gravitate towards creative people. Tanya is also a very creative person, and that was what drew me to her. It was not a conscious effort to get married to someone who is not from the industry.”

Also sharing his opinions on what makes a modern-day marriage work, the newlywed replied, “Commitment, loyalty, transparency, and most importantly a real friendship. Marriage is not about how good you are on your best days, it is about how good you are capable of being on your worst days. That is the most important. Insecurities sometimes cloud our judgments, and I blame both parties for it. I too have been insecure many times throughout my life. But these are some things all modern-day couples need to work on.”

Well, certainly Tanuj and Tanya’s fairytale has begun on a very beautiful note and we only wish them a lifetime of happiness.
