Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Panday’s romantic comedy Dream Girl 2 has seen considerable growth in its tickets sales since it released on August 25. The Raaj Shaandilyaa directorial made Rs 7.50 crores on Thursday, taking its total box office earnings to Rs 67 crores.

Sharing the latest box office figures of the movie, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “The #BO success of #DreamGirl now continues with #DreamGirl2… #DreamGirl2 PACKS A SOLID PUNCH in Week 1, not just at metros but also mass pockets… Fri 10.69 cr, Sat 14.02 cr, Sun 16 cr, Mon 5.42 cr, Tue 5.87 cr, Wed 7.50 cr, Thu 7.50 cr. Total: ₹ 67 cr. #India biz. #Boxoffice.”

In Dream Girl 2, Ayushmann plays Karam, a young man in Mathura whose financial circumstances force him to pose as a woman, Pooja. Ayushmann’s drag avatar in Dream Girl 2 has been a hit amongst cinegoers as the film has turned out to be one of the most successful ventures of the actor. In fact, it also marked the biggest opening of his career as it made Rs 10.15 crores on August 25.

Talking about the film’s good opening, Ayushmann said that it “feels amazing to deliver my career’s best opening with Dream Girl 2.”

“As an entertainer, it feels amazing to bring people to theatres and experience them having a great time. Dream Girl 2 is a film that delivers entertainment in spades. It has a big promise that people will laugh their hearts out and it is good to note that the film has lived up to the expectations to take this solid start at the counters,” he added.

Dream Girl (2019) was the first film in the franchise. According to Bollywood Hungama, its lifetime gross earnings were Rs 169.36 crores in India and Rs 200.8 crores at the worldwide box office. While right now Dream Girl 2 is minting moolah despite the Gadar 2 wave at the box office, next week Ayushmann’s film will have to face competition from Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawaan.
