The latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show featured Shakti Kapoor, Chunky Panday, and Govinda, creating a memorable mix of laughter and nostalgia. During the interaction, Shakti Kapoor, known for his iconic villainous roles in the 90s, shared an amusing story about how he once decided to stop playing negative characters after landing the lead role in a film. However, fate had other plans, and after the movie failed miserably at the box office, Shakti returned to portraying antagonists.
Reflecting on the experience, Shakti said, “I tried to become a hero. I did the film Zakhmee Insaan as the lead, but that film made the producer, director, audience—everyone—Zakhmee. It’s a world record! The film released in theatres at 12 and was removed by 12:15 pm. Before that, I had told everyone I worked with as a villain that I wouldn’t play such roles anymore because I was now a hero. After the film’s release, I went back to all of them, begging for my villain roles again.”
Chunky Panday quickly seized the moment to share a hilarious anecdote about Shakti Kapoor thwarting another actor’s attempt to replace him as one of Hindi cinema’s most memorable villains. Chunky recalled, “There was this other actor about to debut as a major villain. Shakti got worried. He sent Rs 50,000 to the actor, asking him not to take up villain roles because he was casting him as a hero. The actor took the Rs 50,000 and stayed home for two years!” Shakti, refusing to let Chunky have the last laugh, responded, “This is a lie. He’s a liar.”
The episode was packed with such light-hearted and hilarious moments. Another highlight was Krushna Abhishek and Govinda putting their seven-year-long feud to rest. The duo shared an emotional reunion on stage.
