Tumbbad re-release box office collection: Sohum Shah’s cult horror hit surpasses original run in just seven days, eyes Rs 25 crore lifetime haul
Rahi Anil Barve's critically acclaimed film Tumbbad, starring Sohum Shah, has achieved an impressive feat in its re-release, cementing its status as a cult classic.

Director Rahi Anil Barve’s Tumbbad has joined the ranks of Shaad Ali’s Laila Majnu as one of the few Hindi films to eclipse their original run in their re-release. This achievement shows the film’s enduring popularity even after six years of its first release in theatres, in 2018. Tumbbad’s box office performance has been impressive. The film was re-released in cinemas on September 13. According to the makers, the film has earned Rs 12.11 crore in its first six days. According to Pinkvilla, Tumbbad’s day seven earnings stand at Rs 1.3 crore, taking its nett total to Rs 12.65 crore. This surpasses the original lifetime collection of Rs 12.5 crore.
Industry experts predict that Tumbbad will collect over Rs 20 crore in its re-release, bringing its total cumulative collection (including the original and re-release runs) to Rs 25 crore nett in India.

Tumbbad’s successful re-release has sparked producer-actor Sohum Shah’s vision for a larger franchise, with a sequel and further expansions in the works, capitalising on the film’s renewed popularity. Shah has confirmed that a sequel is underway, with a 2025 production start date locked in. Speaking to Variety, he said, “The script is ready, took us six years to perfect it. We cracked the idea with massive difficulty to ensure it does justice to Tumbbad’s’ world.”
