‘We’re all being honest’: Boney Kapoor bristles at suggestion that he’s ‘concocting’ stories, says, ‘You can check the figures’

She said that Vamsi is within his rights to decide what kind of films he wants to make, and if he wants to make event films because they’re more profitable, then there’s nothing wrong with that. As she was speaking, Boney Kapoor attempted to speak. “Today…” he said, but Chandini cut him off, saying “Just let me finish my point.” She said that the onus also lies on the exhibitors, who might want to consider giving proper showcasing to smaller films. Combined with good marketing, she said, this would help bring diversity to the film industry.

Previously, a controversy erupted after Vamsi’s demeanour towards Boney was perceived as disrespectful. Filmmakers Hansal Mehta, Sanjay Gupta, and Siddharth Anand posted notes on social media calling him out. In a post on X, Vamsi responded to one such accusation, and wrote, “You don’t need to teach us how to respect elders, we respect boney ji more than u guys do and there was no disrespect towards boney ji in that conversation it was a healthy discussion, me and Boney ji had a nice laugh and hugged each other after the interview… So please don’t come to your conclusions with just what you saw.”
