Bobby Deol graced the third edition of SCREEN LIVE with his elder brother and actor-politician Sunny Deol. The two brothers discussed several aspects of their lives, including childhood, their relationship with their father, as well as the ups and downs they witnessed in the industry. For Bobby, the 2023 film Animal became one of the turning points in his career. His dance to the song “Jamal Kudu” also went viral. Now, the actor shared the inspiration behind his viral dance step.

At the SCREEN LIVE event, Bobby said, “I still remember when I was shooting for the sequence. Sandeep narrated the scene to me and he said, ‘This is your wedding and you have to dance.’ I said, ‘I cannot dance with a choreographer’ and I started dancing. He said, ‘Cut, I don’t want my character to look like Bobby Deol, I want it to look like Abrar.’ I thought to myself, ‘What do I do now?’ So I went to Saurabh Sachdeva, the actor who played my brother in the film. I asked him, ‘How would you dance?’ and he started dancing and suddenly I don’t know what happened to me, all these memories from all times started to occur to me.”

He added, “As a child I used to go to Punjab during our summer and winter holidays. At night, the men would drink and suddenly a music would play and they would dance to it by putting glasses and bottles to their head. So I said to myself, let me just try doing that and I had done it so many times. I had no idea my style of dancing would become so popular. I just put the glass on my head and I started dancing, next thing I know, it just went viral. It’s just amazing.”

Bobby Deol, born as Vijay Singh Deol, first appeared as a child artist in the 1977 film Dharam Veer, which was headlined by his father Dharmendra. In 1995, Bobby made his debut as a lead actor in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Barsaat. The film was a superhit at the box office. His second film, Gupt: The Hidden Truth, with Manisha Koirala and Kajol, was also a major success, both critically and commercially. However, his film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, with Aishwarya Rai, flopped at the box office. With selective hits, and major flops over the years, the actor went on a hiatus due to lack of work.

The actor then made a comeback with films like Race 3, Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se and Housefull 4. He also made his OTT debut with Netflix film Class of ’83 and web series debut with Aashram on MX Player. Recently, he gained immense popularity for his role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, where he played the villain Abrar Haque.
