81-year-old Delhi doctor robbed of gold chains, probe on to nab motorcycle-borne chainsnatchers

Five days after two motorcycle-borne men allegedly snatched gold chains from an 81-year-old woman doctor in South West Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave area, investigators are yet to trace the accused, a Delhi Police officer said on Wednesday.
The elderly woman, who lives at a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) flat in Munirka, fell on the road while trying to resist the robbery and suffered a fracture. She is undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the officer said.

“I am still at the hospital. And I don’t remember anything after I fell,” the 81-year-old woman, who has her clinic in Munirka, said on Wednesday.
According to the Delhi Police, the incident happened around 3 pm on Friday, when the doctor was walking towards her car after visiting the Kotak Mahindra Bank in Safdarjung Enclave.
As she left the bank, she found a box placed behind her car in the parking area, the First Information Report (FIR) stated.

The victim told the police that she then called a florist, who had his cart nearby, to help her remove the box so that she could reverse her car. As she leaned to pick up the box, two bike-borne men came from behind and laid their hands on the two gold chains she was wearing, the FIR said.
The woman told the police that as she tried holding the chains, she lost her balance due to the speeding bike, and the snatchers managed to flee towards Africa Avenue Road with the gold ornaments.
She told the police that she couldn’t see the drivers as both of them were wearing helmets, nor the number plate of the bike, in the melee.
The police are scanning the CCTV cameras for possible clues for the accused, the officer said.
A case has been registered under sections 309 and 3 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Safdarjung police station.
