Bhumika Chawla admits she and Salman Khan ‘didn’t connect’ beyond a point, says her reluctance to party may have affected career
Bhumika Chawla reflected on whether her quiet personality and tendency to avoid socialising affected her career.

Actor Bhumika Chawla, who rose to prominence after starring opposite Salman Khan in the 2003 film Tere Naam, admitted that they aren’t the best of friends. But despite that, she got the call to appear in Salman’s latest film, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, in which she’s a part of a large ensemble.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, she was also asked if her quiet personality and tendency to not socialise during film shoots affected her career. Bhumika said that she believes in destiny, and the only project she’s upset about losing out on is Jab We Met.
When she was reminded that she’d previously said that she and Salman were never really close, Bhumika said, “No. He told me that I used to come and say ‘good morning’ and then it was directly ‘good night’. He said this during the trailer launch… I was so busy reading my books, and I was quiet in my own zone, and maybe that’s why we weren’t able to connect beyond a point.” When the interviewer told her that Salman’s co-stars often gush over him, and that he has to know that they aren’t all being genuine, Bhumika said, “Once, he hosted a party in Hyderabad during Tere Naam. I went, but I excused myself by 11 pm. On this film also I went a couple of times, but that’s it.”
Asked if this could have worked against her, Bhumika said, “It’s possible. But I don’t think so, because I believe in destiny. If it’s written in your destiny, nobody can stop you, and if it isn’t, then it doesn’t matter how much you party, you still won’t get work.”
Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan opened to negative reviews, but has made more than Rs 130 crore worldwide in five days. Bhumika said in the same interview that she knew what she was getting into, and described KKBKKJ as a ‘mass’ film designed for Salman’s die-hard fans.
