Athiya Shetty is ‘superstitious’ when KL Rahul is playing, cricketer says she was ‘more frustrated and angry’ than him when he was injured

In a recent chat, KL Rahul opened up about the superstition Athiya Shetty has, just like her father Suniel Shetty, when he is playing.

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul credits his wife and Bollywood actor, Athiya Shetty for keeping him motivated to become a better version of himself. In a recent chat, the cricketer opened up about the superstition she has, just like her father Suneil Shetty, when he is playing. He also revealed how Athiya reacted on his injury which happened when he was playing an IPL match. The cricketer’s tendon ‘ripped apart’ from his quadricep and he had to go under the knife to recover.

Recalling his recovery period, when he had to be away from the cricket ground due to his thigh injury, Rahul told Star Sports, “She was more frustrated and angry than I was. I found myself trying to keep her calm as it was the first time she was seeing me go through something like this.” However, the Mubarakan actor gave a “lot of love” to her husband while he was recovering. Rahul added, “It was tough for both of us but it also gave us time that we needed together. She gave me a lot of love.”

During the interview, Rahul showered praise on his wife and said, “If I am peaceful if I am in a balanced state of mind, that helps me perform my best, and that’s what she does for me in terms of cricket and professionally. Also, I can be a little too laid back and content at times. She challenges me to do better, push my boundaries a little bit.”

Since the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup was hosted by India this year, Rahul insisted that Athiya come to the stadium to watch him play. But she insisted on staying home and watching the matches as she is a bit “superstitious”. He shared, “She has a lucky spot at home. So, she wants to sit there. You know how partners can be, they have their lucky positions, their lucky seats. They want to sit there and watch it. She’ll not move when I’m batting. She has certain superstitions when I am playing.” Earlier, Suneil Shetty had also shared that he watched the entire World Cup 2023 while sitting on the floor.

Athiya Shetty married KL Rahul in January 2023. Their wedding was an intimate affair and took place at Suniel Shetty’s Khandala farmhouse.
