Asha Parekh asks ‘when roles are being written for Amitabh Bachchan, why not for us?’
Asha Parekh and Tanuja said that they are not interested in playing the roles of mother, grandmother or sister in movies.

Veteran actors Tanuja and Asha Parekh, who have been a part of some iconic films, have opened up about how nobody is writing roles for them. The actors said they are being offered grandmother, mother type roles while their contemporary Amitabh Bachchan still gets offered key roles and is the star of films.
During a session of Maitri: Female First Collective, Asha, who is seemingly upset with the current situation in the Hindu film industry, said, “Today, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, at this age also, people are writing roles for him. Why aren’t people writing roles for us? We also should be getting some roles which are important to the film. That’s not there. Either we are playing mother, grandmother or we are playing the sister. Who’s interested?”
Amitabh Bachchan, who is 80 years old, had five releases in 2022. He was seen in Brahmastra, Jhund, Runway 34, Uunchai and Goodbye.
Asha Parekh also addressed the age gap between heroes and heroines, which still exists in the industry.
She said, “For women those days it was like if they got married, their career was finished. Now it is not so. So the hero’s maybe 50 or 55 years they are working with 20-year-olds and that is acceptable till today.”
Tanuja, who was part of the discussion, said she always tried to live by her rules. “These are rules that are created but it is up to us (to decide) what is important. Looking at my own life, I decided that ‘Okay, I am not going to be number one or two but I will make my place in this world’ and I did. I have never broken any rules in my life because I make the rules.”
Tanuja also shared an advice for women. She said, “In this time, it is very important for women to understand and tell yourself that – You are possible. You can’t say to yourself – I am impossible.”
