In 2022, Aryan Khan announced his directorial debut with a web series. After nearly two years, he finally opened up about his upcoming project, titled Stardom, in a recent interview. During the conversation, he discussed the challenges of balancing his role as a director with his collaboration with father Shah Rukh Khan on the second collection of his luxury streetwear brand, D’yavol X. Shah Rukh serves as the face of the brand.

During an interview with GQ, Aryan shared his excitement about witnessing his father’s renowned work ethic firsthand while collaborating on their clothing brand. “It’s always a pleasure and a learning experience. People talk about his work ethic, but experiencing it first-hand was really exciting. He has a wealth of knowledge, which makes my job easier,” he said.

Aryan further emphasized that Shah Rukh’s role extends beyond being the face of the brand as he brings a little ‘sanity and maturity’ to his ‘edgy’ brand. He said, “Some things that would take me some time to wrap my head around were seamless for him. Our brand is edgy, so he’s around to keep some semblance of sanity and respectability, otherwise, there could be too much madness. Because we are an age-agnostic brand, I think we have an interesting balance: I have a more contemporary way of thinking; my father brings a dose of maturity into it. Having perspectives from both ends allows the brand to align with our collective vision as well, which is to appeal and cater to everyone, from a 10-year-old to a 70-year-old.”

Discussing his directorial debut and managing it alongside the new collection for his clothing brand, Aryan explained, “They’re both creatively stimulating in different ways. As the creative director of the brand, I shoot the ads, as well as oversee the photoshoots. I’m very involved creatively, but not as much when it comes to the logistics. On the other hand, as a director I have to look into every detail, every shot and every angle.”

While Stardom marks Aryan’s official directorial venture, he previously directed an advertisement featuring Shah Rukh Khan for their fashion brand. The six-episode series, penned by Aryan, will delve into the film industry’s dynamics and is backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter, Suhana Khan, made her acting debut in Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies last year.
