“Personality of actors is very delicate, you say something that is a little off and it will hurt them immediately,” Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi said in a recent interaction. Warsi, who has been in the industry since his debut in the 1996 film Tere Mere Sapne, spoke about how frankness isn’t appreciated in the film industry and how his unfiltered behaviour in the beginning of his career got him in trouble with Jaya Bachchan.

Speaking to Samdish Bhatia on his YouTube channel, Warsi recalled the time he was scolded by Jaya for not wearing appropriate clothes at the airport. Recalling the hilarious anecdote, he said, “I was new in the film industry and my knowledge was zero. I came from a different world. During my first film, Tere Mere Sapne, we had to go to Hyderabad to shoot and I sat in the flight wearing chaddi and baniyan. Pehle toh vaise he ghoomte thay dance-vanse karte thay (We used to wear such clothes earlier. We were dancers). When Jaya ji got to know about this, I received a message, ‘Please tell Mr Warsi to dress appropriately while traveling.'”

Another time, it was Warsi’s unabashed opinion that Jaya didn’t like. Sharing the same, he said, “Then once Jaya ji called me for a film. They used to call people to get their opinion. She asked me, ‘Kaise lagi? (How did you find it?)’ I responded, ‘Bakwas.’ She took me to the corner and said, ‘Keep your opinion to yourself.’ These are lessons learnt.” The actor further talked about the ‘yes man’ culture in Bollywood. “Sach toh bolna he nahi hai doesn’t matter how bad is the film,” he said.

On the professional front, Arshad was last seen in Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon’s Bachchhan Paandey. He has the multi-starrer Welcome To The Jungle and Jolly LLB 3 in the pipeline.
