Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for films like Black Friday, Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur, and Manmarziyaan, shared insights into the challenges he faces in the Hindi film industry due to the expectation of making movies similar to his previous works. In a recent interview, Kashyap expressed his desire to explore new creative avenues but revealed that many Bollywood stars approach him with the condition of recreating his earlier projects. Talking to Film Companion about his movies not featuring Bollywood's biggest names despite him being on the bucket-list of many big actors, the filmmaker said, "Everybody wants to work with me but everybody wants to do a Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur or Manmarziyaan with me. What they think is the film that they want me to do with them. Nobody wants to do something new that I want to do with them. I don't want to go back to what I have done before. I am on everybody's bucket-list but on a condition. I have had a star walk up to me and say, 'Sir ek mere sath Dev D jaise film banao na (Sir, make a film like Dev D with me).' A lot of actors tell me that, 'If there is a film like Manmarziyaan, let's do it.' So they already know what they want to do with me but I want to do something new." In a previous interview with Zoom, Anurag Kashyap discussed the changing dynamics of working with accomplished actors like Vicky Kaushal, mentioning that the actors' market value has increased significantly. He said, “I’m not afraid of making films with very good actors, at a time when I can afford them, and my costs are so low that I have nothing to lose. If you ask me today if I can make Raman Raghav at the same cost with Vicky, I can’t because his market value is high.” Anurag Kashyap's latest film Kennedy, featuring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in the lead roles, closed the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on August 20.
