DirectorAnurag Kashyap, known for his candid opinions, has been particularly vocal lately due to his involvement in the promotions of his upcoming film Haddi, in which he plays a lead role, along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. During a recent interview, the filmmaker shared his two cents on the ‘A’ (Adults Only) certification given to the film OMG 2 by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Despite the film’s universal themes, OMG 2 faced censorship hurdles. When questioned about this, Kashyap told India Today, “That is their problem. This is something one has to deal with.” Shedding light on how the audience reacted to the censor board’s treatment of the film, he humorously added, “Censor ko ‘lataad’ padi na us picture ke liye. People blasted them. The true intention of a film reaches the audience one way or the other. You cannot stop people from feeling offended. Faltu log faltu cheezein pe kahan bhi offend hote hai. They need to work on their system. They are so weak and thin-skinned that they get offended by anything.”

Anurag Kashyap is no stranger to clashes with the Censor Board. His directorial debut, Paanch, faced a ban from the board, and this was followed by his films Black Friday, Gulaal, Ugly, and Udta Punjab, all encountering issues with the censor board.

Starring Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles, and Akshay Kumar in an extended special appearance, OMG 2 was awarded an ‘A’ certificate after over 20 cuts were suggested. Despite encountering censorship challenges and releasing on the same day as the highly successful Gadar 2, OMG 2 managed to hold its ground. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has amassed Rs. 138.42 crore at the Indian box office since its release on August 11.

In a prior viral video, Akshay Kumar came to the defense of OMG 2 and said, “Kamaal ki baat bataun, pehli adult film hai joh teenagers ke liye bani hai. Actually yeh sab school main dikhana chahiye (The funny thing is that this is the first adult film which is made for teenagers. This should be shown in schools).”
