‘Annoyed’ Sunny Deol responds to speculations of Border 2 and Gadar 3: ‘Har cheez ke rumours…’

Sequels have become a common trend in Hindi cinema, particularly for films that have been blockbuster hits. They’ve proven to be a reliable method for producers to generate substantial revenue, capitalising on the audience’s loyalty and fondness for the original movie. Sunny Deol, too, made a grand return with the sequel to his 2001 smash hit, Gadar. The tremendous success of Gadar 2 has sparked rumours of Sunny starring in Border 2 and Gadar 3. In a recent interview, Sunny addressed these rumours.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, an annoyed Sunny said, “It has been there ever since Gadar released, ‘yeh part 2 kar raha hoon, voh part 2 kar raha hoon’, arre kitni part 2 kar raha hoon! Har cheez ke rumours chale jaa rahe hain (I am doing this part 2 and that part 2. Rumours are spreading about everything). I will announce it myself. People like to speculate.”

While Sunny might not be involved in “Border 2″, he is teaming up with director Rajkumar Santoshi for Lahore 1947. Sunny and Rajkumar have previously collaborated on films such as Ghayal and Damini. The film is being produced by Aamir Khan.

Discussing the project, Sunny said, “Gadar 2 has been successful so this film is happening. We have been with this film for the past 15-17 years, but it wasn’t happening. Gadar has opened a lot of doors for all of us. Raj is very talented, he has got a lot of great subjects. People have seen him and me doing three films together, all different genres, and all masterpieces.”

Gadar 2 was released on August 11, 2023. It grossed over Rs 691.08 crore worldwide against a production budget of Rs 60 crore and became the 5th highest-grossing film of 2023.
