There is a new entrant in the Rs 500-cr club — Ranbir Kapoor. Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal saw a huge third Sunday jump at the box office, keeping its hopes alive of breaking some more records before it closes its final run. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Animal has entered yet another hallowed club with its all India nett on its day 17.

Animal box office collection on day 17 was an estimated Rs 15 crore, helping it net a total of Rs 35 cr on the third weekend, which led it to earn Rs 512 cr (all India) mark. Ranbir Kapoor is the only Bollywood actor to enter the Rs 500 cr club after Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol. The film’s Hindi collections are an estimated Rs 466 cr while globally the film is inching closer to Rs 850 cr mark.

In terms of all-India nett records, Animal is eyeing to break Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which stood at Rs 543 cr. The other Shah Rukh release, Jawan, is out of reach as the Atlee directorial had minted Rs 640 cr all-India nett.

In Hindi collections, Animal is chasing two records–Pathaan and Gadar 2. While Pathaan closed its Hindi run at Rs 524 cr, Sunny Deol’s mighty return to cinemas was at Rs 525 cr. Animal has a task at hand as it would have to collect more than Rs 50 cr from this point to break these records.

A lot of Animal’s eventual run depends on the number of screens and showcasing it gets in the third week, as two Christmas biggies will arrive in cinemas– Shah Rukh Khan-Rajkumar Hirani’s social comedy drama Dunki and Prabhas’ action drama Salaar.

Animal would hope to retain some showcasing to reap in the Christmas holiday benifits, which would ultimately determine if it can break those big lifetime records. Headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, the film also stars Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, Triptii Dimri and Rashmika Mandanna.
