Amitabh Bachchan has been working in the movies since the 1960s and in the early 2000s, Bachchan worked in a Bhojpuri film titled Ganga, which was produced by his make up artist Deepak Sawant. In a recent appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Manoj Tiwari, who also starred in the film with Ravi Kishan, recalled the incident and said that Amitabh did the film without charging any money.

Manoj said that he received a call in the last few days of the shoot where Bachchan asked him to play a role in the film, despite the fact that Ravi Kishan, who was a huge star in the Bhojpuri industry, was starring in the film. He laughed and said, “The film was made but to sell it at a better cost, if the producer comes to me that you come and work in it for two days, how is that an actor’s fault?”

Tiwari recalled, “Amitabh Bachchan called me. It was a big day for me. Amit ji called me and said Manoj give us two days. Deepak Sawant, his makeup artist, was producing the film. Then I thought why was Amitabh Bachchan calling me? For 10-12 days, I was in a daze because it was actually a dream of mine that I meet Amitabh Bachchan and when he was standing in front of me, I was only looking at him.”

Tiwari said it was Bachchan’s “greatness” that he agreed to be a part of Ganga as the actor was not doing it for himself, but for Sawant. And that too, Bachchan did not charge any money for it. “At that time, Bhojpuri films were made for Rs 1.5 crore and the producer would make Rs 7-10 crore from it. He did it for Deepak Sawant. For him, Amitabh Bachchan did the film without charging any money so the film could make more money,” he shared.

Ganga also starred Nagma and Hema Malini.
