Prime Video announces 2024 India slate: From Varun Dhawan-Samantha’s Citadel Hunny Bunny to Ananya Panday’s Call Me Bae, here’s the full list

Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday announced its upcoming slate of Indian shows and films, including new seasons of Mirzapur, The Family Man, Panchayat and Paatal Lok, alongside debut runs of Gulkanda Tales, Citadel: India and Call Me Bae.

Weeks after Netflix India announced its slate of programming for 2024, rival Prime Video on Tuesday revealed its own lineup of upcoming films and shows. At the top of the list was the Indian leg of the streamer’s ambitious global espionage franchise Citadel. Co-created by Raj and DK, Citadel: India is the third spinoff of the ‘mothership’ series, which starred Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, and opened to poor reviews last year. Also on the lineup were the third seasons of the massively popular shows Mirzapur, The Family Man and Panchayat.

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Kilter Films produce in association with Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks, the series is based on one of the well known video games of all times. The show is led by Ella Purnell, who plays the role of Lucy, a vault-dweller. She has an optimistic attitude, which is challenged when she has to rescue her father. The remaining cast includes Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serve as executive producers of the series.

Vijay Varma starrer Matka King is set against the backdrop of 1960’s in Mumbai. The story revolves around a cotton trader (played by Varma), who in his greed for respect starts a gambling game called Matka. Directed by Nagraj Manjule, Matka King is written by Nagraj and Abhay Koranne. It is produced by Roy Kapur Films.

Citadel Honey Bunny

The Raj and Dk directorial is the Indian leg of global series Citadel. The show stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan and set in 1990s. The series also stars Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Singh Parihar, Kashvi Majmundar, Saquib Saleem, and Sikandar Kher. The American leg of Citadel was headed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden.

This Telugu talk show is hosted by actor Rana Daggubati and promises interesting line-up of guests and conversations. The show is backed by Rana’s banner Spirit Media Pvt Ltd and has Rajeev Ranjan and Prashanth Potluri credited as producers.

Dupahiya

Led by Gajraj Rao and Renuka Shahane, Dupahiya revolves around a village’s pride of being crime-free for 25 years. However, the celebrations remain incomplete when a bike gets stolen. Directed by Sonam Nair, it is written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg and also stars Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Srivastava, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashpal Sharma.

Snakes and Ladders

This Tamil series is based on four children, who end up stuck in a dangerous, life threatening situation. Created by Kamala Alchemis and Dhivakar Kamal. the series is directed by Bharath Muralidharan, Ashok Veerappan, and Kamala Alchemis. The cast includes Naveen Chandra, Muthu Kumar, Nandaa, Srinda, Manoj Bharathiraja, Ramachandran, Sreejith Ravi, Samrit Surya, Rageshwar Surya, Kumar Tharun, and Sasha Bharen.

Gangs Kuruthi Punal

The Tamil series is a fictional period drama, with the story revolving around the dark side and lives of smugglers, dealers, pornographers, film stars, aristocrats, and politicians. Directed by Noah, it stars Sathyaraj, Ashok Selvan, Nasser, Nimisha Sajayan, Ritika Singh, and Easwari Rao. Soundarya Rajinikanth serves as the creative producer of the series.

Vineet Kumar and Rajshri Deshpande starrer Rangeen, revolves around a middle aged man and his discovery of an uncomfortable truth around marriage. The show is directed by Kopal Naithani and Pranjal Dua and filmmaker Kabir Khan is the Creative Producer of the show. It is written by Amardeep Galsin and Amir Rizvi.

Khauf

This psychological-supernatural thriller revolves around the life of a woman, who moves into a room in Delhi, unaware of what has happened there before. As spine-chilling incidents take place one after the other, the young woman must fight the evil outside and within. Khauf, starring Monika Panwar, Rajat Kapoor, Abhishek Chauhan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, and Shilpa Shukla, is directed by Pankaj Kumar and Surya Balakrishnan. It is written by Smita Singh.

Arabia Kadali

A fictional suspense drama series that revolves around a group of fishermen from rival villages who inadvertently trespass into international waters and find themselves imprisoned in a foreign jail, Arabia Kadali is produced by First Frame Entertainments Pvt Ltd and co-written by Krish Jagarlamudi, Dr Chintakindi Srinivas Rao, Surya Kumar, and Sunil D The Telugu series will see Satya Dev and Anandhi in leading roles.

Call Me Bae

Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic, this show stars Ananya Panday, Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada and Varun Sood. The description of the show read, “Downsized from heiress to hustler, Bae discovers that her most valuable assets aren’t her diamonds, but her street smarts and style. Broke but refusing to be broken, she navigates the newsrooms of Mumbai, finding beaus, behens, and her better self.”

The Tribe is a story of the young and unafraid who are chasing an epic dream. It revolves around the lives of a group of Indian influencers, who have been set up to crack global fame in Los Angeles and it is for the audience to find out whether they are brave or foolish. Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment Pvt Ltd with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta Aneesha Baig serving as the executive producers. The Tribe is directed by Omkar Potdar and will Alanna Panday, Alaviaa Jaaferi, Srushti Porey, Alfia Jafry, Aryaana Gandhi and Hardik Zaveri in key roles.

She hopes to find freedom by uploading her poetry on the internet with the help of her band of misfits — a brass band singer and a new age. It will feature Shalini Pandey, Zahaan Kapoor, Swanand Kirkire, Sanjana Dipu, Ashish Vidhyarthi and Anupama Kumar in key roles.

Ikkis, featuring Agastya Nanda, Dharmendra and Jaideep Ahlawat, is a biopic on second lieutenant Arun Khetarpal PVC, who is among highly decorated heroes of the 1971 War. Produced by Maddock Films Pvt Ltd, Ikkis is directed by Sriram Raghavan.

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya

Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Dharmendra and Dimple Kapadia is about Aryan who is not able to find a perfect life partner. He meets a perfect girl, Sifra, during an official assignment in the US and falls in love with her only to discover later that it’s an impossible love story.

Ashwatthama – The Saga Continues

Set in the present era marked by rapid technological advancements and humanity’s remarkable capabilities, Ashwatthama confronts the challenges of modernity, facing off against formidable adversaries in a high-octane, action-packed narrative. As the mystery of a legendary figure thrust into the chaos of the present day unravels, the film explores the inner psyche of an immortal being, revealing how he perceives the world he has witnessed for thousands of years. Produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh and directed by Sachin B Ravi, the film will see Shahid Kapoor playing Ashwatthama.

Besides this, the trailer of Inspector Rishi, with Naveen Chandra in the titular role, was launched at the event.

Also on the slate is a new series from Shonali Bose and possibly a new film from Vishal Bhardwaj. But the single biggest surprise of the slate is expected to be Stardom, an upcoming series written and directed by Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan. The show is reportedly set in the seedy underbelly of the Hindi film industry, and will feature numerous celebrity cameos.

This year, Prime Video’s biggest Indian release has arguably been Indian Police Force, a TV spinoff of Rohit Shetty’s sprawling cop universe of big-budget films. The streamer is also gearing up to release the period drama Ae Watan Mere Watan, starring Sara Ali Khan and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment. Karan Johar’s digital venture appears to have fully moved to Prime after initially launching a slate of titles on Netflix. Dharmatic’s next Prime Video project after Ae Watan Mere Watan is the comedy-drama series Call Me Bae, starring Ananya Panday.
