Especially after the success of her second film, Highway (2014), Alia has consistently delivered back-to-back stellar performances. In fact, she featured in three films, including a cameo in Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly, in the same year as Highway. Alia became a mother last year, which brought a significant change to her approach towards work and life. In a recent interview, she revealed that after becoming a mother, she now values a work-life balance more than ever before.
While in the past, Alia was willing to make sacrifices like compromising on her sleep and giving up family time, she now considers these aspects of her life non-negotiable. Talking to Femina, she said, “As I cross a decade in cinema, my life over the decade has also changed a lot. I think there was a time when I was willing to make sacrifices of all kinds – of sleep and time with my family – and just continuously work and shoot. Now I have a family. I have a daughter. I have a husband. I also feel like all these 10 years, this time I did not spend with my parents, with my sister, with my friends – I want to be able to do that.”
To achieve this balance, Alia is making a conscious effort not to get distracted by her phone when she’s with her family. “And, of course, never give up working, but try and bring about some balance. So, yes, that is the decision that I’ve consciously taken and it includes being present. I feel like, very often, we might not be working, but we’re on the phone talking, figuring things out, you know, doing some random things. So, I also just find lots of balance by not looking at my phone if I have nothing to do. I try to do this. Sometimes I fail miserably, sometimes, I succeed,” she added.
Along with her dedication to her family, Alia remains committed to her work. Last year, she appeared in four films, including blockbusters such as RRR and Gangubai Kathiawadi. She also received heaps of praise for her role in the Netflix film Darlings. However, her movie with husband Ranbir Kapoor, Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, received mixed reviews from critics.
Alia has two exciting projects on the horizon — Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and her first Hollywood film, Heart of Stone.
