Akshay Kumar did OMG 2 for free, says producer Ajit Andhare: ‘Reports of film’s budget hugely exaggerated’
Amidst widespread rumors regarding OMG 2's budget, the film's co-producers Ajit Andhare stated that Akshay Kumar didn't charge a rupee for the film and 'was fully invested both creatively and financially'.

Even in the face of strong competition posed by Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 is delivering an impressive box office performance, effectively bringing an end to the challenging phase that the Selfiee actor was experiencing.
While Gadar 2 is clearly leading the box office charts in the northern states, OMG 2 has managed to amass an impressive nett total of Rs 84.72 crore domestically and a global collection of Rs 111.8 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Amidst widespread rumours regarding the film’s budget, where a segment of social media suggests it exceeds Rs 150 crore, Ajit Andhare, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Viacom18 Studios, which co-produced the movie alongside Cape of Good Films and Wakaoo Films, has dispelled these speculations and firmly stated that the circulating figures are far from accurate.
“The reports of the budget of OMG 2 are grossly exaggerated. On the contrary, Akshay (Kumar) didn’t charge a rupee in fee and in fact, walked alongside us in both the financial and creative risk involved in such a courageous film,” Andhare told Pinkvilla.
“We share a long history & understanding with him as a Studio since OMG, Special 26, and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and I have been totally in lockstep with him in taking up scripts that are unconventional but stand for something larger and meaningful. Without him this risk was impossible to take, he was fully invested both creatively and financially,” he added.
Helmed by Amit Rai, OMG 2 stars Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam, and Pavan Malhotra in key roles, alongside Akshay Kumar.

On Thursday, Akshay Kumar turned to platform X (previously known as Twitter) to express his gratitude to the audience for their affection towards his movie as well as Gadar 2. “A big thank you to our audiences for all the love for #OhMyGadar and giving us the greatest week in Indian Film History! प्यार और आभार🙏🏻,” he noted.
Awarding 3.5 stars out of 5, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review of OMG 2: “It’s been a while since I enjoyed an Akshay Kumar performance as much as this one. And I haven’t been taken by surprise as much as I was in OMG 2, in the best way possible.”
