National Award-winning filmmaker Rahul Dholakia is excited for his upcoming film Agni, his comeback project after Shah Rukh Khan’s 2017 movie Raees. At the trailer launch of Agni, starring Pratik Gandhi, Divyenndu, Shayami Kher and Sai Tamhankar, Dholakia said that being on the stage to promote his new film, has been a “long long journey.”

Talking about Agni, based on the lives of firefighters in Mumbai, the filmmaker said, “The job of a firefighter is extremely difficult and we don’t know anything about it. We think aag lagi hai and they douse the fire. But they do a lot more, you’ll see it in the film.”

Rahul Dholakia also reflected on why he felt the need to tell this story. Dholakia said, “We have films on police officers and faujis, but we have never seen a film on firefighters. Internationally, you may have seen, but in India we do not have them. When I was doing research, once I met a firefighter and he said, ‘Fauji jo hai, woh desh sambhalta hai, border sambhalta hai, hum shehar sambhalta hai (Soldiers protect the country, the border, we protect the city). I think nobody knows about the lives of firefighters. When there is a fire, we call them. But there are so many other rescue operations that they carry out we are not even aware of.”

“In Agni, we are talking about the lives of firefighters, how they fight fire and manage their family lives. They deserve more respect,” he added.

Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar is one of the producers of Agni. About his decision to back the film, he said, “The idea was brought to us by Rahul Dholakia. We had never seen a film on firefighters. It is not just an action movie, but the beating heart of the film is drama. There’s duty, bravery, courage and sacrifice. These are also shown by the family. We are also talking about the family. It is an important and fresh story.”

Lastly, talking about being back on the director’s chair after helming Raees, Rahul Dholakia said, “I am overwhelmed. It’s been a long long journey.”
