After slamming TV industry’s work culture, Radhika Madan says she learnt everything from television: ‘What you learn on TV, can’t learn anywhere else’
Radhika Madan got her first break on television but she quit her daily soap at the height of its popularity.
Radhika Madan said she learnt everything she knows from television. (Photo: Radhika Madan/Instagram) Radhika Madan, who worked in television shows for a few years before she started working in the movies, had previously spoken up about the never-ending hours of working on a TV set and many, including Ektaa Kapoor, criticised her comments. Now, in a recent interview, Radhika said her learnings from television have helped her in her career and also added that what one can learn on TV, cannot be learnt anywhere else.
She told Siddharth Kannan, “I have learnt everything from television. What you can learn on TV, you can’t learn anywhere else.” When asked about the fan following that she had gained after working on television for almost two years, Radhika said that filmmakers were quite surprised as they did not expect a television celebrity to be that famous. “Nobody expected me to have that following but that is the love that you get from television,” she said.
Radhika Madan also spoke about the transition from television to films and how that was the “biggest challenge” of her career. The Kacchey Limbu actor said that she did not have any work for a year and a half and was living off her savings. She also shared that many of her co-stars on television suggested that she shouldn’t leave the show. Radhika played the lead role on the Colors TV show Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi.
“When I was transitioning from TV to film, there was no work, nothing. By God’s grace my show was a hit and leaving it at that peak was really risky and that too for a dream that I didn’t know was going to work out or not. I had to start from scratch. But I had to take that leap of faith. A lot of people were telling me that nothing is going to work out, you should stay back and work here for 2-3 more years,” she recalled.
In an earlier interview, Radhika Madan had opened up about working 48 hours on a TV set where creative inputs were not encouraged.
