On Wednesday, unknown gunmen shot outside Disha Patani’s ancestral residence in Bareilly. After the incident, gangsters Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara allegedly claimed that they were responsible for the attack and said that this was done in response to a statement made by Disha’s sister Khushboo about certain godmen. Now, Disha and Khushboo’s father, Jagdish Singh Patani, has made a statement defending his daughter. He said that his daughter’s statement was “misrepresented” and that it was a “conspiracy to demean” them.

He told ANI, “Khushboo was misrepresented. Her name was dragged into the matter of Premanand Ji Maharaj. We are Sanatanis, and we respect the sadhus and saints. If someone is misrepresenting her statement, it is a conspiracy to demean us. Two unidentified assailants fired at my residence.”

He further added, “Two unidentified assailants fired at my residence. Police are making all possible efforts; Bareilly Police, SSP, and ADG are all working on it. The gunshots are not indigenous; they are foreign-made. I think 8-10 rounds were fired. I came to know through social media that Goldy Brar has taken its responsibility, but it is not clear yet.”

What did the gangsters say?

Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara allegedly shared a note on Facebook, where they wrote, “I am Veerendra Charan, Mahendra Saran. Brothers, today, the firing that took place at the house of Disha Patani has been done by us. She had insulted our revered saints (Premanand Ji Maharaj and Aniruddh Acharaya Ji Maharaj) and tried to belittle our Sanatan Dharma. The insult to our deities will not be tolerated. This was just a trailer. If she or anyone else shows disrespect towards our religion again, not a single person in their house will be left alive. This message is not just for her but for all the film industry artists and those associated with them.”

What did Khushboo say?

Disha’s sister, who also served as a major in the Indian Army, reacted to a comment made by Aniruddh Acharya Ji Maharaj about live-in relationships back in July. He suggested that women who stay unmarried past the age of 25 are usually promiscuous, and Khushboo gave her two cents on the matter. “He says girls who are above the age of 25 and stay in live-in relationships, woh 4 jagah mooh maar ke aati hai. If only he was around me, I would have made him understand the meaning of the words he has used against women. They are anti-national. You should never support b**** of the highest orders,” she shared on Instagram.

Around the same time, Premanand Ji Maharaj, had also spoken about romantic relationships and the netizens assumed that Khushboo was taking a dig on him. However, she posted another video with clarification in August and said that some social media handles were “deliberately spreading fake news” against her.

FIR at Kotwali police station

SSP Bareilly released a statement regarding the attack and said, “We received information about the firing at retired CO Jagdish Patani’s residence by two unidentified motorbike-borne assailants. Police teams were immediately sent to the site. An FIR has been registered at the Kotwali police station under various sections. Armed police personnel have been deployed for the protection of the family members.” He added, “We will take strict action against the accused. I personally met with the family and have assured them of their safety.”
