Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Neha Kakkar get into a spat over performing at weddings: ‘Koi kaam bada, chota nahi hota’

Does one become less of a singer if they perform at wedding functions? That was the issue at hand when singers Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Neha Kakkar locked horns on the latest episode of Superstar Singer 3. In a clip that has gone viral from the singing reality show, the two are seen getting into a spat after Abhijeet says it is beneath one’s dignity if they take money to sing at weddings, getting a sharp reaction from Neha, who advices the contestant otherwise.

The clip begins presumably after a young contestant, still on stage, has finished his performance. While Abhijeet gives his comments, the singer adds about how the young boy must refrain from selling his art cheap.

“If someone pays you to sing at a wedding, usmein aukaat kam ho jaati hai. Meri aukaat hai, main bol deta hu main nahi gaunga. No power or money in the world can buy you,” he said. Neha then corrected the singer and added, “You earn after working hard — that can be through weddings also, there’s nothing wrong with that. Fans can call you because they like you.”

To which Abhijeet interrupted and told her, “Don’t take what I said personally.” Neha replied, “I didn’t take it personally sir but because we are educating a child…” Abhijeet then interrupted her again, as Neha kept speaking over him to put across her point.

“I am also doing the same. When it comes to aukaat… Just listen to me… There is a difference in singing for Rs 1 crore and rejecting Rs 1 crore. That’s what I am teaching,” Abhijeet kept his point.

Neha then calmly told him, “Sir, all that I am trying to say is that no work is small,” as visuals showed Abhijeet folding his hands to signal that he is done speaking. She continued, “If you have to sing at weddings, please do. If someone is giving you respect, calling you with love, there is nothing wrong with singing at weddings.”

The visuals then showed the child nodding as Abhijeet sat in his chair and mumbled a “wow”, drowned by the sound of applause from the audience. Abhijeet was among the most popular singers of the 90s, who did playback for almost every major star including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan among others.
