Singapore Police finds ‘no foul play’ in Zubeen Garg death case

Zubeen garg death case update: Days after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police charged four people with murder in the case related to singer Zubeen Garg’s death, the Singapore Police said Friday that it has taken note of the development and that it does not suspect foul play. It added that authorities in Singapore will submit their report, which will be made public following an inquiry in February next year.

“The case is currently still being investigated by the SPF, in accordance with the Singapore Coroners Act 2010. Based on our investigations so far, the SPF does not suspect foul play in the death of Mr Garg,” a statement issued by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) read.

Upon completion of the SPF’s investigations, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore, who will hold a Coroner’s Inquiry (“CI”), a fact-finding process to establish the cause and circumstances of death.

The CI is currently scheduled for January and February 2026, the statement said, adding that its findings will be made public upon conclusion.

Urging the public not to speculate and spread unverified information, the SPF said it “is committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the case. We seek the patience and understanding of the parties involved.”

Zubeen Garg died while swimming in Singapore on September 19 where was as a cultural brand ambassador for the Northeast India Festival. He went on a yacht outing, which he was reportedly taken on by members of the Assam Association Singapore, and lost consciousness while he was swimming during that outing.

The Assam Police SIT is investigating a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) case filed in connection with Zubeen’s death under charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and causing death by negligence, to which murder charges were added as well.

Seven people have since been arrested in connection with this case.
