‘Aamir Khan knows how to respect his co-actors, open to sharing the spotlight’: Lagaan actor Akhilendra Mishra

Actor Akhilendra Mishra recalled his experience working with Aamir Khan in films like Sarfarosh and Lagaan.

Akhilendra Mishra, a veteran actor, has had the privilege of working with one of Bollywood’s most iconic stars, Aamir Khan, on not one, but two critically acclaimed films – Sarfarosh and Lagaan. Reflecting on his experience of working with Aamir, Mishra had nothing but praise for the actor’s professionalism and generosity.

“Aamir knows what would work best, what should be done and what should not be done. The other thing about him is that if he feels that the scene belongs to the other actor, he would just give it away to them. It is a big thing for a star to think like that. It doesn’t happen that way all the time,” Mishra said in an interview with Digital Commentary, as he highlighted Aamir’s unique approach to acting and his willingness to share the spotlight with his co-stars.

Mishra, who played the role of Mirchi Seth in Sarfarosh (1999), fondly remembered a particular instance where Aamir gave away a scene to him, demonstrating his humility and respect for his fellow actors. “He did that in Sarfarosh. He said, ‘this is your scene, you should take over’, when I was working with him for the first time. It was a great experience working with him. It went on to become a superhit. After that, I was called to be a part of Lagaan,” The 62-year-old actor recalled, cherishing the memory of working with Aamir on both films. In Lagaan, Akhilendra played the role of Arjan.

Mishra’s experience working with Aamir is a shining example of the actor’s professionalism and his willingness to put the needs of the film and his co-stars above his own.
