Aamir Khan isn’t averse to doing romantic films, but they should be age-appropriate: ‘Thoda suitable hona chahiye’

Aamir Khan shared that he would love to do romantic films again, although he has certain conditions.

Actor Aamir Khan was last seen on the big screen in the ambitious 2022 film Laal Singh Chaddha, the official remake of Hollywood hit Forrest Gump. Ever since the film’s commercial failure, he has been on a self-imposed sabbatical. The actor, who has appeared in several romantic films in the past, said that he wouldn’t mind returning to the genre, provided his character is age-appropriate. Aamir is approaching 60.

Aamir was launched as a romantic hero in 1988’s Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. During a recently held News18 conference, when asked if he would consider doing a romantic role, Aamir said, “Agar romantic kahani hogi toh zarur. Iss age mein romance thoda uncommon hota hai. Kahani ke hisaab se agar main character suit karunga toh kyun nahi karna chahunga (If there’s a romantic film I can do, sure. It’s a little uncommon to explore romance at my age. If I suit the character and the story, why not)?”

The actor continued to explain that he wouldn’t tamper with his character’s age for no reason. “Har genre karna chahunga. Par age-wise thoda suitable hona chahiye. Suddenly main 18 ho gaya ho woh nahi karna chahunga (I would like to explore every genre of film. But, it’s important that I suit the age of the character. If there’s a role that suddenly requires me to look 18, I don’t want to do that).”

Recently, Aamir hosted the wedding ceremony of his daughter Ira Khan with her long-time boyfriend Nupur Shikhare. The registered wedding took place in Mumbai, whereas the traditional ceremony took place in Udaipur, Rajasthan in January.

The actor is expected to return in front of the camera for his next film, slated to release around Christmas, 2024. The film was expected to go on floors on 20 January. However, currently there is no update on it. His next production is going to be Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol in the lead and Rajkumar Santoshi in the director’s chair. Aamir is expected to appear in an extended cameo in the film.
