Despite its short theatrical run, Kiran Rao’s comedy-drama Laapataa Ladies received widespread acclaim and triggered significant discussions. Now, after the movie’s OTT premiere, the film has once again become a topic of conversation, with many who missed it in theatres now praising it on social media.

Featuring Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan in key roles, the movie was bankrolled jointly by Kiran, her former spouse Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. Recently, Aamir and Kiran joined forces to promote the film once again, alongside cast members Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Ravi Kishan and Sparsh Shrivastava.

During the chat, moderated by journalist and author Neelesh Misra for Netflix India, “Mr Perfectionist” Aamir Khan commended all the actors, particularly Sparsh Shrivastava, whom Aamir admitted surprised him. “When I saw the film for the first time, when Kiran showed me the first cut, all the actors, including even the junior-most actors, did a great job.”

“And these three,” he gestured toward Nitanshi, Pratibha and Ravi, “did a great job. You fulfilled your roles with such flair. But the character that surprised me was Sparsh’s. His performance shocked me. I could see the others’ performance on paper itself. But Sparsh’s character wasn’t written so clearly on paper. He had nothing to do; he was just panicking and running around. But when I saw him enact it, I was bowled over. The way he has performed it, your heart goes out to him.”

Aamir further revealed that after witnessing Sparsh’s performance, he called him and even spoke with his mother. Meanwhile, Sparsh recounted a funny incident involving Aamir that happened the first time the Dangal actor contacted him after watching the crime drama streaming series Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega. Sparsh recalled, “He messaged me saying, ‘Hi Sparsh, I am Aamir Khan. I loved your work in Jamtara and wish to talk to you.’ I thought why would Aamir Khan message me? I thought it was fake. And Jamtara is a show based on a scam. I thought someone was scamming me.”

“Then I asked sir to send me a voice note to make it believable. Then he said he would video call me in a while. When he called, I was covering the camera with my hand. I was still under the impression that someone was fooling me. But then I saw, he was sitting right under a good light, his skin was glowing, he was wearing a cream shirt, and I got excited,” Sparsh, who was last seen in Ae Watan Mere Watan, said.
