Union Public Service Commission may reduce the age limit for the prestigious Civil Services Examination (CSE). In the present structure, the age criteria for the candidate is between 21 and 32 years of age to be eligible for the exam.

As per ET Now, the upper age limit might get down to 26. The Board might be phasing out the age limit by six years over the next 5-7 years to insulate the aspirants who are already preparing for the exam. However, for SC/ST, there would be no reduction in the upper age limit and will remain unadhered.

The final decision on this matter will be taken by the Central Government.

The panel is headed by former education secretary BS Baswan who was appointed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government in August last year to change the overall system of the civil services examination.

The Civil Services Exam is conducted by the UPSC to select candidates to fill administrative positions in different All-India Services and central civil services including IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, and IRTS.

Every year, lakhs of candidates appear for this prestigious examination. The general category and OBC candidates are allowed six attempts for IAS Civil Services examination while it is not restricted to SC/ ST candidates.
