In view of the passing of Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, several universities in the state have postponed their exams. Among them, Bharathiar University has postponed the semester exams which were to be held between December 6 and 12 and Anna University has deferred all exams originally scheduled from December 6 to 8.
The Tamil Nadu government had declared an official mourning period in the state for seven days on Monday, December 5. All schools and colleges across the state were directed to shut down from December 6 to 8 following the demise of the former AIADMK chief. The classes are set to commence from tomorrow, December 9.
While Bharathiar varsity has said in a release that the new exam schedule will be released at a later date, its School of Distance Education Examinations will be held according to the original time-table.
Madras University has also suspended classes in all schools and colleges under its wing.
Not just Tamil Nadu, but classes in schools and colleges in the neighbouring states of Kerala and Karnataka were also suspended for a day as a mark of respected to Jayalalithaa. Exams were postponed at many higher education institutions in Kerala as well.
The examinations of Anna University, scheduled on December 1 and 2 2016 are postponed to 18th and 11th December 2016 respectively, as per a notification flashing on the website’s exam section.
