The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has released the list of the top most engineering colleges in India. The list was officially made public by Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani in March, 2016.

The NIRF had followed a five-point criteria for ranking the colleges, which comprised of teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.

Even though the criteria was common for all ranking colleges from all regions, the methodology was different as it had to be tailored to the region the colleges fall in.
Here is a list of the best colleges in east India.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have scored the top three positions in the list. The famous IIT Kharagpur is at the top along with an all-India ranking of No. 4, followed by IIT Patna and IIT Guwahati.
