(Pic source: @EduMinOfIndia) The Supreme Court of India and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT M) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aiming at facilitating the digital transformation of the Indian judiciary.
This MoU was signed after the Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud visited IIT Madras in July this year, a press release issued by the public relations office of the apex court stated.
Through this partnership, IIT Madras will utilise artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies in day-to-day proceedings of the Supreme Court.

“The MoU outlines provisions for cooperation in the utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies in tasks such as summarisation, transcription, translation, development of an exclusive streaming platform for court trials, process automation, and deployment of large languages models (LLM) tailored for the legal domain,” the Ministry of Education said in a post on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter).
Supreme Court, under the leadership of CJI Chandrachud, is bringing technological enhancement in making its process automated, user-friendly, and citizen-centric to enhance access to justice, the official press release of the apex court stated.
