Shiv Nadar, School of Oriental and African Studies introduce MA in global urban sociology

Applications for this programme are open from November 1 to July 31 every year, with classes expected to start in September. Interested candidates can visit and apply through the SOAS official website, read the release.

Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, deemed to be a University has invited applications for a joint postgraduation programme in global urban sociology. The programme is in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. The programme focuses on global sociology and specifically on the global sociology of cities and urban life-worlds. 

Applications for this programme are open from November 1 to July 31 every year, with classes expected to start in September. Interested candidates can visit and apply through the SOAS official website.

Students will have to spend three months at SOAS University for term one (September-December) and five months for term two (January-May) at Shiv Nadar IoE . During term three (June-September), students will work remotely on their dissertation, a statement issued by Shiv Nadar said.

Students must complete 180 SOAS credits to be awarded and a co-badged certificate of MA in global urban sociology from SOAS and Shiv Nadar IoE. This includes a 60-credit dissertation and 120 credits of taught modules (half from each institution), the statement added.

The fee for this one-year-long programme is 12,500 Euro and is expected to be paid in full before October 31.

Eligibility

— Applicants must hold a 2:2 degree (or its international equivalent) or higher in a relevant social science or humanities subject. 

— Indian applicants having BA, BSc, or  BCom must have a four-year integrated degree.

— Applicants must check their international and English entry requirements at the official website at SOAS.

— Applicants can provide references to build a stronger application, although it is not a compulsory requirement.

The course will offer students to explore current global urban issues through case studies from various cities and develop skills to critically evaluate sociological frameworks in real-world scenarios, including their own research project. Additionally, students must have standard visitor visa for the UK prior to starting the programme and a student visa for India before the start of Term 2.
