Professor Gobardhan Das has been appointed as the new director of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal. Before assuming this position, Professor Das was a professor and chair of the Special Centre for Molecular Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

He is the third director since the inception of IISER Bhopal in 2008.

Professor Das has a PhD in Immunology— host pathogen relationship from the Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh. He is associated with professional organisations such as the Molecular Immunology Forum and Guha Research Council.

He also holds editorial positions in PlosOne, Mycobacterial Diseases and Frontiers in Immunology. He is also a reviewer at Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences USA, Blood, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Cancer Research, Gastroenterology, Cell research, Microbiology Immunology, European Journal of Immunology, PlosPathogens, Cellular Immunology and Microbiology and Immunology, Tuberculosis.
