NEET UG 2023: The National Testing Agency (NTA) introduced changes in the eligibility criteria for OCI, PIO card holders appearing in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2023. Indian medical aspirants living abroad will be able to check the corrigendum at the official NEET website — neet.nta.nic.in.
As per the revised guidelines, Indian nationals, NRIs, overseas citizen of India (OCI), persons with Indian origin (PIO) and foreign nationals are eligible for admission in medical, dental, ayurveda, siddha, unani and homeopathy colleges.
“In compliance of the Hon’ble Supreme Court Order dated 03.02.2023 in W.P No. 891 of 2021, OCI will be entitled to the rights and privileges which had been conferred on them earlier to the notification dt 04/03/2021,” the corrigendum stated.
According to the earlier guidelines, the OCI Cardholder (including a PIO card holder) is a foreign national holding passport of a foreign country and is not a citizen of India. So, these candidates were treated as foreigners and were only eligible for NRI seats, and not for Indian national Seats including paid seats of deemed universities.
Meanwhile, the NTA has yesterday concluded the extended registration process for NEET UG 2023, and the exam is now scheduled to be conducted on May 7 from 2 pm to 5:20 pm.
