NEET 2 paper leak: Owing to the arrest of three persons in connection with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2 paper leak, the Uttarakhand High Court has sought a reply from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and asked the Nainital police for a status report, according to news reports in DNA and News 24. The CBSE has been given a time of two weeks for the same.

The court has set September 5, 2016 as the date for the hearing of the matter.

The NEET 1 examination had been held on May 1, while the NEET 2 exam was held in July 24 this year.

The CBSE, though, has refuted claims of the paper leak as the Board has said that the question paper which was leaked is different from the paper administered to students during the exam, according to News 24.

The CBSE had declared the combined results of the NEET examinations on August 17. According to the DNA report, the CBSE has stated that the attempted leak was based on false assurances to candidates of getting them passed in the exam by certain untrustworthy elements.

On July 23, the three accused were arrested from Ramnagar in Uttarakhand in connected with the leak of the NEET 2 paper. According to News 24, the accused are charged with taking money from 46 NEET candidates and providing them with questions and answers. The report states that the police found that the accused were charging the students anywhere between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh for the papers.

After the arrests, one Anshul Sharma from Rajasthan had filed a plea in the Uttarakhand High Court stating that the matter be investigated fully and that the CBSE NEET 2 examination be cancelled, News 24 states.
