The results for Class 10 and 12 (science and commerce) streams, conducted in the state by Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), announced Friday showed a dip, ranging from over three per cent to over 11 per cent, across the board. The results of arts stream students of class 12 will be declared around month-end.

An already short-staffed JAC has been facing further problem with the contractual employees in the Council going on strike, demanding regularisation. On Friday too, they blocked both the main gates of the JAC office in Namkom to pursue with their demands.

Mukim conceded that the strike by employees led to the delay in declaration of result, which was to be done on May 15. “The arts stream result gets usually delayed as the results of these two streams are released first. It creates problems for the children, but we are tied up because of shortage of manpower. We are planning to release the arts stream result by around May 30,” said Mukim.

In Intermediate (Science), the pass percentage came down from 64.57 per cent last year, to 58.36 per cent this year – a drop of 6.21 per cent. The boys in this stream had a pass percentage of 57.79 per cent, while the girls had a pass percentage of 59.90 per cent.

The sharpest drop of 11.22 per cent was witnessed in Intermediate (Commerce) stream, where the pass percentage came down from 74.18 per cent last year to 62.94 per cent this year. The boys had a pass percentage of 57.04 per cent, while the girls had a pass percentage of 71.92 per cent.

Mukim attributed the drop to strict action taken against those indulging in malpractices. “We had deployed observers and magistrates. Besides, the Chairman and our teams inspected several schools during the examinations. Further, we ensured that there was no favouritism against illegal considerations during evaluation of the copies,” he said.

A total of 4.7 lakh students had taken the examination of Class 10, while the total number of students in Class 12 (Science and Commerce) was 1.36 lakh. The examinations had started on February 17. They were held across 932 centres (for Class 10) and 459 centres (for class 12).
