JEE Main 2024 Exam Analysis (January 29): ‘Moderate math, physics and easy chemistry’

In the morning shift, the chemistry section was somewhat of the easy to moderate level whereas physics and mathematics had tricky and lengthy questions, Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director, Engineering at Aakash BYJU’S told indianexpress.com. The same pattern was followed in the evening shift of Mathematics exam too.

The JEE Main BTech January 2024 paper comprised three subjects – physics, chemistry and mathematics. All the subjects has two sections. While section 1 had 20 multiple choice questions with single correct answer, section 2 had 10 numerical based questions out of which only five had to be answered. Numerical-based questions in both the sessions were found to be easy as per most students. The paper was held for a total of 300 marks.

Questions covered almost all chapters of Class 11 and Class 12 CBSE board. Students felt more weightage was given to Class 12 chapters in physics, FIITJEE expert said.

JEE Main 2024 Day 2: Analysis of Mathematics

The difficulty level of Math was seen as moderate by students and experts. Questions were asked from all chapters with emphasis on chapters of algebra and calculus.

More than one question was asked from matrices and determinants, 3D geometry, vectors and straight lines. Other chapters included permutation and combination, complex numbers, statistics, progressions, quadratic equations, function, limits, continuity and differentiability, application of derivative, indefinite integration clubbed with trigonometry, definite integrals, differential equations, area, straight line, circle, conic sections with mixed concept questions. In comparison to the Class 11 and 12 portions, most of the questions were asked from the Class 12 syllabus only.

The numerical section had lengthy calculations from chapters of calculus and coordinate geometry. A few questions were reported as lengthy and tricky. A similar pattern was seen in the evening shift too.

The difficulty level was moderately tough, students said.

More weightage was given to electrostatics. Other chapters included kinematics, gravitation, rotational motion, SHM, laws of motion, magnetism, ray optics, capacitance, current electricity, modern physics, fluids with an assertion reasoning question, heat and thermodynamics. 

Numerical-based questions were tough and lengthy. A few fact-based questions from Class 12 chapters of NCERT were also asked. Students felt more weightage given to Class 12 chapters.

In comparison to last year’s physics papers in JEE Main, the questions asked were of a good standard in this shift.

However, in the second shift, students found Physics to be easiest. In comparison to the morning shift paper, Physics questions were relatively easy.

JEE Main 2024 Day 2 Exam Analysis: Chemistry 

Chemistry was rated as easy to moderate on the difficulty level. In the second shift of the exam, questions in chemistry were mostly straightforward and not that complicated. 

Organic and inorganic chemistry was given more weightage compared to physical chemistry. Questions were asked from chemical bonding, electrochemistry, mole concept, coordination compounds, p-block elements, atomic structure, chemical kinetics, general organic chemistry, alcohol, ether and phenol, biomolecules, amines, aryl and alkyl halides.

Overall coverage of the chapters was uniform. Almost all the questions are more or less related to or asked from NCERT, and were theoretical in nature.
