Top Engineering Colleges- IIT Madras: Fom the last 5 years, in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), released by the Ministry of Education, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT- M) has been consistently ranked first among the engineering colleges category. Not only engineering, it is also a premier institute of research and innovation and has been ranked first in the overall rankings category.
Fom the last three years it has been ranked second in the research rankings category of NIRF. This year, it has also ranked second in the newly-launched innovations category.

The IITs from India boycott the ‘THE World University Ranking’ due to issue in their ranking parameters. IITs complain that the ‘THE World University Ranking’ are not transparent about their ranking parameters.
IIT-Madras was inaugurated in 1959 in Tamil Nadu. It has 591 faculty members and 2,105 undergraduate students, 4,112 postgraduate students, 746 MS research scholars and 2,963 PhD research scholars. Recently, IIT-Madras has been awarded with the title of Institute of Eminence.
