Faculty members from ENAC will travel to India to conduct sessions at the IIT campus (Image via IIT Madras Pravartak, Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile)The IIT Madras (IITM) Pravartak Technologies Foundation has announced the launch of a joint training programme in Aviation Safety Management (ASM), in collaboration with France-based L’Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC).
The programme is being offered with support from Airbus and is aimed at strengthening aviation safety education and professional capacity in India, according to an official statement.
The upcoming batch of the programme is scheduled to begin in February 2026, with applications open until January 31, 2026. The intake for the batch has been capped at around 30 participants.

The ASM programme is designed for professionals working across airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, maintenance and repair organisations, aviation training institutions, and civil aviation authorities.
The course is structured to equip safety managers and safety experts with skills related to safety performance evaluation, risk management, and organisational safety practices across the aviation ecosystem.
Course delivery will be led by faculty members from ENAC, with the curriculum covering both technical and operational dimensions of aviation safety. According to an official statement, the programme also addresses behavioural and managerial competencies such as communication, leadership, decision-making, and safety culture.

The training programme follows a blended, in-person format spread over two years. In the first year, participants will attend in-person sessions for four to five days every two months. During the second year, in-person sessions will be held for four to five days each month. The programme also includes a six-month project or dissertation component.

The first batch of the ASM programme is currently underway, and feedback from participants has been cited as encouraging by the organisers.
Speaking on the initiative, the chief executive officer of IITM Pravartak stated that aviation safety requires professionals with a balance of technical expertise and operational judgement, and that the programme aims to build these capabilities across the sector, according to an official statement.

IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation operates as a Section 8 company and hosts a Technology Innovation Hub under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems. The hub is supported by the Government of India and is hosted by IIT Madras, focusing on areas such as sensors, networking, actuators, and control systems.
Through this collaboration with ENAC and industry partners, IITM Pravartak is positioning the ASM programme as a structured training pathway for aviation professionals seeking to strengthen safety practices within a rapidly expanding aviation environment.
